Rue loved to buy loose gemstones with the plan of having them made into custom pieces of jewelry at some point in the future. She started buying her first stones in the early 1980’s when she purchased a 3-carat emerald and 2 substantial rubies, and this habit continued for the next 20 years. Although she did have some pieces made, her collection of loose stones grew until it filled a faux-crocodile traveling case. This 13-carat Blue Topaz measures 1/2” x 3/4” and was purchase by Rue during an Amazon Cruise in Brazil during the late 1990’s. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from The Estate of Rue McClanahan.
