Featured ItemsRue's Prom Dress from 1949 (No kidding, she NEVER threw anything out!)
After Rue passed, we found this flat blue bag in a storage shed in the yard of her Manhattan apartment. We popped the bag and hung the enclosed dress out to air in the yard. The thing kept growing until it was several feet across. Rue’s sister, Dr. McClanahan (what were they feeding those girls in Oklahoma?), identified the gown as Rue’s prom dress from 1949. She recalled the shopping trip to Oklahoma City to purchase the item, and even how much it cost – $200, which is the equivalent of $1,960 when adjusted for inflation. There are these little sparkly stones sewn all over the skirt and this dramatic trailing scarf; it looks like the exact dress “Blanche” would’ve worn to her prom. Rue’s waist was so tiny at the time that even unzipped we couldn’t get this dress over the mannequin’s shoulders or hips, we had to take it apart. As you can see, Rue wore the gown more than once because that is her wearing it years later at a college formal. This amazing find comes with 8″ x 10″ prints of the photos shown and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$5,000Mounted Early Interview Photo of Rue
Part of Rue’s job as a successful actress involved giving interviews to the press in order to promote the projects she was involved with. Rue’s name started to appear in the local newspaper when she was a girl, and she started to appear in articles that included reviews of her work by the time she was in college. However, when Rue got the role of Bea Arthur’s neighbor in “Maude” everything went to a whole new level and the national media started to pay attention to her – it was an exciting time in her life. Here is an 11″ x 14″ piece that has a mounted color photograph of Rue from an early interview. We think she looks very 1970s and chic with her cool sunglasses. This singular vintage piece from Rue’s personal professional memorabilia collection comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$325 NOW $162.50Rue's "Prompt Script" From "Nuncrackers"
Rue loved all the nun shows she made for and with Danny Goggin. It was a combination of the writing and the team; she really had a ball whenever she went to work on a Danny Goggin project. This is Rue’s original, 8.5″ x 11″, spiral bound “Prompt Script” from the show. The piece comes with prints of the photos posted and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$225Rue Made Dangling Frog Earrings
Rue made this pair of dangling frog earrings way back in the 1990s. The frogs are a half inch across and the whole earring dangles down 2.5″. Rue really did have a thing for frogs, they were all over her house in one form or another, as you can see from the photo posted which shows some of her other frogs. Rue’s frog earrings come with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$275 NOW $137.50More Christmas Ornaments [SOLD]
Three more of Rue’s Christmas ornaments. The silver pine cone is glass and measures 7.5″ long and about 2.5″ at its widest. The apple is made of what feels like cardboard or thick treated paper with some sort of varnish on it. It measures 1.75″ across and has a slight crack on the side. The dog is 4″ high and about 3.5″ long. It is signed: “Love Eadie + Chris Xmas 1986″ and we believe it was from a couple of Rue’s employees (and friends) at the time. You can see the ornaments with Rue in the picture taken while she was decorating the tree. The other photo is Rue and her second husband taken in front of the completed tree. We’ll include copies of both pictures and a Certificate of Authenticity.
$125 NOW $62.50Rue's Signed Cast Photo From "Mama's Family"
You never know what treasures can be found in the files of Rue McClanahan, and that is why EVERYTHING needs to be gone through with a fine-toothed comb. When we first started sorting though all of Rue’s file boxes and file cabinets, it looked like an endless job and it was challenging to keep going after the first thousand or so sheets of paper. However, whenever we would come across a file like this it would motivate us to keep going. Can you believe what was just sitting inside this old manila file folder?! It is an original 8″ x 10″ publicity still from “Mama’s Family” signed by the cast. Rue owned another one of these, which she kept framed and displayed in her office, but we had no idea she had a back up buried in her files! Carol Burnett’s signature is not there, but everyone else signed. Perhaps Ms. Burnett was absent the day Rue obtain all the signatures. Rue and Ms. Burnett got along beautifully, and she certainly would have signed the still for Rue, but Vicki Lawrence and Ms. Burnett, well, maybe there was a reason Ms. Burnett was avoiding the set. Anyway…Rue’s original, signed publicity shot from “Mama’s Family” comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
