Featured ItemsOriginal Martha Swope 8" x 10" Stage Shot [On Hold]
Martha Swoop is one of the most prolific and successful dance and theatre photographers in the world. This is an original rehearsal shot that she took of Rue in her early career. If we knew who the man was, we could figure out the show. Do you know? We’re thinking this may be “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” but Rue looks a little too young for her turn as Martha. If you know, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ms. Swoop stamped this piece, so it is clearly marked as one of her photographs. Remember, because the photographer is famous, the piece is already highly collectible, but when you add in that it was OWNED by the Rue McClanahan, the provenance goes off the chart! Rue’s Martha Swoop original 8″ x 10″ comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$325 NOW $162.50Rue's Silly Frog Umbrella [On Hold]
We’ve written before and we probably will again – Rue McClanahan had a thing for frogs. Isn’t this umbrella a hoot? It was probably made for a child, but Rue McClanahan carried it high and proud. She could be silly with a completely straight face, too, which made it all the funnier. Rue’s frog umbrella comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$225 NOW $112.50Rue's African Beaded Purse [On Hold]
Isn’t this a wonderful piece of art? Rue found this handmade beaded purse during a trip to Tangiers and she had to have it. It is very thin and holds practically nothing, so it is more a piece for displaying rather than a purse to actually carry; and besides, the 40″ beaded strap blew some beads – Rue taped it with some painters tape that was handy – so it really is being sold as a work or art and not a functional purse. The piece measures 13.5″ x 9.5″ and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$375Trash Basket From Rue's Home Office [On Hold]
You can see this trash basket on the floor of the home office in Rue’s Manhattan apartment next to Rue and her bestie, Sue. The piece measures 12.5″ tall and is 12.5″ wide, too. We don’t think this was necessarily made to be a trash basket, but that is what Rue used it for. The piece will come with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$225Rue's Amazing Doodle Script From "The Golden Palace" [On Hold]
First of all, as we’ve mentioned before, so many of Rue’s things have coffee stains on them, and this piece is no exception. Second, we love how when Rue was doodling on something that she spilled coffee on she would incorporate the coffee stain into the design. Do you see the way she outlined each mark? Third, this is one of the most intricate of Rue’s script doodles; it takes up almost the entire cover! Forth, and finally, there are only a few of these left. Oh, wait, one more thing – a trivia fact. Margaret Cho, the comedian, made her television debut in this episode and almost 20-years later, during an appearance on “The View,” she talked about how nervous she was and credited Rue McClanahan for helping her and getting her through the experience. That is a young Margaret standing next to Rue at the piano during the filming. Rue’s doodle script from “The Golden Palace” comes with prints of the photos posted and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$2,500 NOW $1,250Original Photograph With Significant Hollywood Connection [On Hold]
Rue was made the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood in the ’90s. Don’t you just love the enthusiasm and joy of the women near her? Anyway, the photographer who took the photo was George Hurrell’s last assistant, the photographer Richard Settle. Hurrell was the biggest Hollywood glamour photographer in history, and his long term assistant is an amazing photographer in his own right. We know for a fact that this photograph is “important” because it is an original print of Rue McClanahan that was personally owned by her, but we suspect it is “IMPORTANT” on a completely different level due to the historical significance of the man who shot the photo. Only time will tell…. Rue’s original photograph from the day she became Honorary Mayor comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
