Featured ItemsRue's Hardbound and Soft Cover Albee Play [On Hold]
Rue was a fan of Edward Albee; who isn’t? She knew Mr. Albee personally, and actually introduced me to him at the Drama Desk Awards one year. I had read some of his early work in the ’70s and thought he must be a mad man, so it was a pleasant surprise to find him completely normal and seemingly sane. Here are two versions of the same play from Rue’s library, one softcover and the other hard. The hardbound volume belonged to someone Rue worked with on a project and she signed it over to Rue – there is in inscription in the front, as you can see – and that was when Rue first came to know the work of the writer many consider to be the best living playwright alive today. Rue’s pair of Albee plays come on the same Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$99 NOW $49.50Rue's Yardstick [On Hold]
This is one of those household items of Rue’s that has practical value. If you are anything like Rue, you will use this yardstick all the time, too. Rue used this for any of the things one uses a yardstick for; she used it to measure stuff and to draw straight edges. But mostly, Rue used this yardstick with her sewing. In particular, she used this yardstick every time she worked on that quilt she spent 32-years finishing! I remember her using it one day when she was working on the ticking, or whatever it is called along the back of the quilt, and I said something sassy and this yardstick promptly cracked me right on the top of the head – Rue! Rue’s yardstick/weapon comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$99 NOW $49.50Rue's Red Velvet Lounging Pajamas [On Hold]
These red velvet lounging pajamas are over-the-top! How glamorous can anyone be? It is almost required that one walks around carrying a martini in an up glass when you wear something like this! We suspect Rue wore these in a theatrical production because the draw string was pulled out and an elastic waistband sewn in, which is usually what a costumer will do to facilitate the quick changes needed on the stage. The two-piece outfit was made by “The Pajamagram Company” and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$275 NOW $137.50Original Signed 8" x 10" Head Shot [SOLD]
When Rue signed head shots, if she didn’t like the way her signature turned out, she’d shove it in a drawer, or a book, a magazine, a script, under a couch cushion, etc… We thought we had found the last of them, but we recently came across a couple more in a box of office supplies. Here is one of them. We think the signature looks great, but perhaps she didn’t like all the squiggles she put around her name. Anyway, here it is, one of the last 8″ x 10″ original signed head shots we have. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
$275Rue's Emmy Award
Of course, Rue hung on to the dress and earrings she wore to the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1987, and she also hung on to the Emmy Award she took home that magical night for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.” All three items are part of this package and they come with an 8 1/2” x 11” framed glossy photograph of Rue in the dress, wearing the earrings, and holding her Emmy. See clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1g7oY1Xw-g (Rue was miffed Howie mispronounced her name – twice!).
(You didn’t think we were seriously going to sell Rue’s Emmy, did you?)One of Rue's Loose Jewels - Golden or Imperial Topaz [SOLD]
This is a “pear cut” stone. Did you know the world’s largest cut diamond is a pear cut? It is the “Cullinan” and it is mounted in the British Royal Scepter. What does that have to do with Rue’s loose jewel? Nothing, really, we just came upon the fact during our research and thought it was interesting. As we’ve written in the past, and as you can see from the first photo of some of Rue’s jewelry collection spread out in the living room of her Manhattan apartment, RUE LOVED JEWELRY! There is a little faux alligator case to the left in that photo and Rue carried her loose gemstones inside. We even found a photo of her bent over a table examining stones for a purchase. This particular jewel she picked up during her trip to either Brazil or Africa, and it is either a golden or an imperial topaz. If it is the former, you’ll be getting a great deal, if it is the later, we ought to never be allowed to post another thing because we’ll be giving away a rare, expensive stone for next to nothing. Isn’t this exciting? In either case, we’ll include a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue – just attesting to the fact that the jewel was Rue’s, since we aren’t certain which type of jewel it is – and we’ll include prints of the photos shown.
