Before a book is published, there is a lengthy stage of making corrections and changes. Much of this is done on computers or on loose leaf pages called “proofs.” Toward the end of the process, publishers sometimes print out a bound galley proof that is used to make final corrections, and to send around for advance reading by a few carefully chosen people. Rue asked for, and received, several cases of bound galley proofs so she could have some of her friends and family members read the book before it was set to publish. She had some left over – as seen in the picture from the original estate inventory. Each original bound galley proof from Rue’s library comes with a signature stamped 8″ x 10″ black & white book cover image, and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
