We came across this 8.5″ x 10″ First Place Certificate in one of Rue’s old files from her school days and then, amazingly, we found the medal she was presented that same day in 1952 in one of her jewelry boxes. The 1.25″ x 5/8ths inscribed medallion isn’t marked as far as gold content goes – we don’t know what it is made out of – copper? However, it is inscribed on the back: “Radio Speech Girls Class A 1952.” Rue held on to these two mementos from her high school days for almost 60-years, and she spoke about the experience of winning the competition in interviews over the decades. She was proud of what she was able to accomplish, it was an important step in the confidence building process that allowed her to risk being an actor. The original certificate and medallion come with prints of the photos shown and a Certificate of Authenticity.
