Here is an interesting story. In 1967 Rue was cast alongside Stacy Keach to play Lady MacBird in the Barbara Garson play “MacBird!” (And yes, the exclamation point is part of the title.) The show was a satire that placed the JFK assassination into the context of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Are you still with me? Anyway, Rue character was based on Lady Bird Johnson, the President’s wife, and so when she bought this old locket at a jewelry store to use as part of her costume, she glued a picture of the President inside. She told me she knew the audience wouldn’t see it, ever, but she knew it was there. Motivation, folks, it is what makes a star. Oh, and Rue didn’t have a clue who Cecilia was, and neither do we. Ah, the ’60s. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
