Featured ItemsSilk Floral Arrangement (And a Story!)
Rue had a new boyfriend at the time of her death. She had already been married six times, had had recent open heart surgery, was recovering from a stroke, and STILL she was like a giggly teenage girl wanting nothing more than to talk about her new man! Her new man sent her three silk floral arrangements. She is posing with her suitor’s photograph and one of the arrangements in the photo taken in her home office posted here, her handyman Julio accidentally smashed the second one – THAT WAS A TENSE DAY AT CASA RUE! – and here is the third. To write that these arrangements were Rue’s prized possessions at the end of her life is an understatement. See the little stuffed dog she is pressing to her cheek in the other photo posted? That was sent to her by her new guy, too, and you can see how important it is to her by the way she is holding it. The gentleman courting Rue was having a birthday the month after her death, his 85th. Rue had already lovingly signed 30 birthday cards to him so he would receive one each day for a full month leading up to his birthday, and she had inscribed one of her gorgeous “doodles” to him for that special day. Just so you know, we sent one of those cards to Rue’s intended each day for those 30 days, and then we sent Rue’s signed doodle to him so it arrived on his birthday. We know that was what Rue would have wanted. Although he was heartbroken at the lose of his “girl,” he was so grateful for the expression of her love for him. Isn’t that romantic? This piece measures 11″ x 11″ and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$275Rue's Nuts and Beads Necklace
What a bizarre necklace, right? The bead part makes sense, but the nuts? We can just imagine Rue’s delight when she discovered the piece, too; Rue adored the unusual. This strand of 1.5mm beads and 5mm nuts is 32″ long and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$225 NOW $112.50Heart Locket on Sterling Chain [SOLD]
Although there are no pictures inside this 3/4″ heart-shaped locket, we think it may be the one Rue wore in the movie “Rusty: The Great Rescue,” a film she made back in 1997 with Hal Holbrook. The chain is sterling silver and 18″ long and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$114.14Rue Made Red Rose Earrings [SOLD]
Rue made these red fabric and metal rose earrings over 30 years ago. She was definitely not as a good a jewelry maker as she was an actress, but that never stopped her from going for it anyway. They measure a mere 1″ long and the rose is no more than .5″ at its widest. She put little pieces of tape on the back because they were hurting her ears when she wore them – and she did wear them, all the way up until the end of her life. They come with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$99Rue's Carved Maori Box Given To Her By Her Son Mark
Like most mothers, Rue always thought of her son as a little boy. Also, like most mothers, no matter what her son gave to her – crayon drawings, pipe cleaner sculpture, macaroni necklaces, etc… – she adored and kept forever. Sometimes her boy hit the ball out of the park though and gave her something she not only adored as a mother, but also as Rue McClanahan, world class shopper and collector. This vintage carved Maori box with paua shell inserts is just such an item. Rue genuinely loved this piece. When a big earthquake hit the Los Angeles area in the late ’80s, this piece flew off of Rue’s dresser in her adorable Encino house (photo posted) and a little corner of wood popped off. Rue said she looked for that little piece for days but never found it; she figured one of her cats or dogs thought it was a bit of kibble and probably ate it. Nevertheless, she displayed this piece in her various homes for the rest of her life, and when asked its origin, she’d proudly say: “That was a gift from my son.” Rue’s carved Maori box comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$375Rue's Dream Catcher
As many of you already know, Rue McClanahan had some American Indian blood in her veins; Rue was a proud, card-carrying member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. It should comes as no surprise then that she had a dream catcher in her Manhattan apartment. Legend has it that this device catches all the negative or toxic dreams while you sleep, much like a spider’s web catches all that tries to pass through it, and then in the morning they disappear. This leaves only positive and good dreams to fill your nights. Of course, Rue really didn’t need a dream catcher since all she ever seemed to dream about was MEN! Rue’s dream catcher measures 7.5″ wide and is 1.25″ thick. We think Rue actually sewed the red fabric on the back of this handmade work of art, probably to make the beads and web stand out more. Rue’s dream catcher comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
