Featured ItemsOne of Rue's Loose Jewels - Golden or Imperial Topaz [SOLD]
This is a “pear cut” stone. Did you know the world’s largest cut diamond is a pear cut? It is the “Cullinan” and it is mounted in the British Royal Scepter. What does that have to do with Rue’s loose jewel? Nothing, really, we just came upon the fact during our research and thought it was interesting. As we’ve written in the past, and as you can see from the first photo of some of Rue’s jewelry collection spread out in the living room of her Manhattan apartment, RUE LOVED JEWELRY! There is a little faux alligator case to the left in that photo and Rue carried her loose gemstones inside. We even found a photo of her bent over a table examining stones for a purchase. This particular jewel she picked up during her trip to either Brazil or Africa, and it is either a golden or an imperial topaz. If it is the former, you’ll be getting a great deal, if it is the later, we ought to never be allowed to post another thing because we’ll be giving away a rare, expensive stone for next to nothing. Isn’t this exciting? In either case, we’ll include a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue – just attesting to the fact that the jewel was Rue’s, since we aren’t certain which type of jewel it is – and we’ll include prints of the photos shown.
$175Rue's Signed Cast Photo From "Mama's Family"
You never know what treasures can be found in the files of Rue McClanahan, and that is why EVERYTHING needs to be gone through with a fine-toothed comb. When we first started sorting though all of Rue’s file boxes and file cabinets, it looked like an endless job and it was challenging to keep going after the first thousand or so sheets of paper. However, whenever we would come across a file like this it would motivate us to keep going. Can you believe what was just sitting inside this old manila file folder?! It is an original 8″ x 10″ publicity still from “Mama’s Family” signed by the cast. Rue owned another one of these, which she kept framed and displayed in her office, but we had no idea she had a back up buried in her files! Carol Burnett’s signature is not there, but everyone else signed. Perhaps Ms. Burnett was absent the day Rue obtain all the signatures. Rue and Ms. Burnett got along beautifully, and she certainly would have signed the still for Rue, but Vicki Lawrence and Ms. Burnett, well, maybe there was a reason Ms. Burnett was avoiding the set. Anyway…Rue’s original, signed publicity shot from “Mama’s Family” comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$1,500 NOW $750Collection of 15 of Rue's Various Personal Photos [SOLD]
Rue maintained a vast collection of personal photographs, which she kept in cabinets in the home office of her Manhattan apartment. Here are 15 of those personal photos – with Rue appearing in each one. The snapshot from her sister’s wedding is 3.5″ x 5″, but all the rest are 4″ x 6″. She is shown having dinner with the Academy Award winning Actress Patricia Neal in one shot, and there is another famous actor whose name we can not remember now at the table with them. Oh, it’s on the tip of our tongues! Is is Robert Stack? We love Rue talking to the monkey during an Amazon Cruise, and she looks so happy in both the high school reunion shot and the one taken at Sardi’s Restaurant the night she was presented with her caricature. The collection comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$125"Wicked" Signed Cookbook and Signed Playbill with Publicity Card - $79 [SOLD]
While Rue was playing Madame Morrible in the hit Broadway Musical “Wicked,” the cast and crew released a second edition of their charitable cookbook. Rue included a questionable recipe from her Aunt Wenonah that actually involves pouring a can of 7-Up into a baking dish with dough! We made it, and guess what? It is delicious! Anyway, the cookbook is signed by Rue and we’ll include an original signed playbill and publicity card, too. It measures 5.75″ x 8.5″, is 131 pages long, and contains over 65 recipes. Comes with a 4″ x 6″ print of Rue on stage with Ben Vereen as The Wizard – just because we love that picture – and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$79.00Gift from Bea Arthur [SOLD]
This is a very difficult piece to let go of because it was one of Rue’s prized possessions, but Rue’s son intends to follow his Mother’s final wishes and make ALL of her personal property available to her fans – except family items of sentimental value that he selected. Bea Arthur had this sterling silver and 14kt gold pin custom made for her friend Rue McClanahan way back during the “Maude” years. Both their friendship and their working relationship continued for many more years – the friendship until Bea died, in fact – and there were many more gifts exchanged during that time, but Rue said this was the one she cherished most. There was something about a talented, professional like Bea recognizing and setting down in silver and gold that she thought Rue was a star that really touched Rue’s heart. The pin measures 1″ x 1.5″. We’ll include prints of some of Rue’s personal photos showing the two ladies together and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$2,000Rue's Carved Maori Box Given To Her By Her Son Mark
Like most mothers, Rue always thought of her son as a little boy. Also, like most mothers, no matter what her son gave to her – crayon drawings, pipe cleaner sculpture, macaroni necklaces, etc… – she adored and kept forever. Sometimes her boy hit the ball out of the park though and gave her something she not only adored as a mother, but also as Rue McClanahan, world class shopper and collector. This vintage carved Maori box with paua shell inserts is just such an item. Rue genuinely loved this piece. When a big earthquake hit the Los Angeles area in the late ’80s, this piece flew off of Rue’s dresser in her adorable Encino house (photo posted) and a little corner of wood popped off. Rue said she looked for that little piece for days but never found it; she figured one of her cats or dogs thought it was a bit of kibble and probably ate it. Nevertheless, she displayed this piece in her various homes for the rest of her life, and when asked its origin, she’d proudly say: “That was a gift from my son.” Rue’s carved Maori box comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
