Featured ItemsRue's Set of Four Balsa Wood Ornaments
We couldn’t bring ourselves to break up Rue’s set of four handmade balsa wood ornaments, so we’re selling all four together. These are individually beautiful pieces and don’t necessarily imply Christmas, so they could be hung out on anything year around as art. The pieces measure between 2.25″ and 2.75″ across and they will all appear on one Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$225 NOW $112.50An Early "Doodle" From Rue's Collection
This is a very early “doodle” from Rue’s collection. You can see many of the design features and shapes that she would use over and over throughout the years in this early piece, and there is a definite joy to the drawing that remained constant all the way through her “doodling” career. This original drawing is 9″ x 12″ and it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$950 NOW $475Rue's Large Framed Original Drawing of Shubert Alley
This original pencil drawing of Rue’s is quite large – the framed piece measures 22.75″ x 31″. It depicts Shubert Alley in the Broadway District of Manhattan and it was done in September of 1979 by an artist named Andreas Heise Bergamo. Mr. Bergamo could draw! Rue’s 36-year-old framed original drawing comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue. Because it is so large, and covered in glass, we are only going to ship within the continental United States, unless you are willing to scrap the frame, and then we’ll roll it and ship it anywhere in the world.
$450 NOW $225Rue's Hardbound and Soft Cover Albee Play
Rue was a fan of Edward Albee; who isn’t? She knew Mr. Albee personally, and actually introduced me to him at the Drama Desk Awards one year. I had read some of his early work in the ’70s and thought he must be a mad man, so it was a pleasant surprise to find him completely normal and seemingly sane. Here are two versions of the same play from Rue’s library, one softcover and the other hard. The hardbound volume belonged to someone Rue worked with on a project and she signed it over to Rue – there is in inscription in the front, as you can see – and that was when Rue first came to know the work of the writer many consider to be the best living playwright alive today. Rue’s pair of Albee plays come on the same Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$99 NOW $49.50Rue's Amazing Doodle Script From "The Golden Palace"
First of all, as we’ve mentioned before, so many of Rue’s things have coffee stains on them, and this piece is no exception. Second, we love how when Rue was doodling on something that she spilled coffee on she would incorporate the coffee stain into the design. Do you see the way she outlined each mark? Third, this is one of the most intricate of Rue’s script doodles; it takes up almost the entire cover! Forth, and finally, there are only a few of these left. Oh, wait, one more thing – a trivia fact. Margaret Cho, the comedian, made her television debut in this episode and almost 20-years later, during an appearance on “The View,” she talked about how nervous she was and credited Rue McClanahan for helping her and getting her through the experience. That is a young Margaret standing next to Rue at the piano during the filming. Rue’s doodle script from “The Golden Palace” comes with prints of the photos posted and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
$2,500 NOW $1,250Rue's Director Chair [SOLD]
We aren’t quite sure which project Rue used this chair on, but we know she had it for years in the yard of her Manhattan apartment. The canvas has a little discoloration along the edge, and the stain is worn off the arms in some spots from frequent use, but it is still solid and there are no rips. The back is embroidered with Rue’s name. Comes with the frame and panels shown, and a Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
