Rue enjoyed cooking and considered herself a “foodie.” She actually considered herself as having a hyper sense of taste, too. A certain combination of flavors could send Rue into raptures of joy. For example, I once bought some fresh Wonder Bread, raspberry jam, and Jif Creamy Peanut Butter and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for my lunch. Rue was with me and so I offered her half and she had a total meltdown when she tasted it. She couldn’t understand why we ever left PB & Js behind in childhood because they are simply amazing. It was fun to see her enthusiasm for the simple things in life. Anyway, here are 10 of her food books. You can see the one on Herbs in the photo posted. The two larger hardbound books have her bookplates, and the one from the Hilton Head Health Institue is signed by the author. Almost all of these volumes are for healthy, nutritious and delicious food, but our favorite is “Hillbilly Cookin,” just look at that table of contents! Rue’s 10 food books will appear on one Certificate of Authenticity from Estate of Rue.
